r. Spencer Kiper is Louisiana’s 2019 State Teacher of the Year, an educator, educational technology leader, university administrator, and enthusiastic traveler who believes some of the best learning happens far beyond the classroom.
Spencer has spent his career helping educators embrace curiosity, innovation, and new ways of seeing the world. He has presented regionally and internationally, earned advanced degrees in educational technology, cyber education, and educational leadership, and completed his doctorate in educational technology. But some of his favorite learning experiences have happened while exploring new cities, cultures, landscapes, and classrooms around the world.
As a Bookbag Tours leader, Spencer loves helping educators experience a destination beyond the typical sightseeing checklist. He is happiest discovering the stories that make a place special, trying something new, taking entirely too many photos, and traveling with people who are ready to learn, laugh, explore, and make a few unforgettable memories along the way. His “super-secret missions” have become notorious with his travelers.
When he is not working or traveling, Spencer is probably planning his next adventure, talking someone into joining one, or finding an excuse to visit Walt Disney World. He still plans to become either a Disney Cast Member or a NASA educator when he grows up.
