In the summer of 2024, I traveled to Japan with BBT. The trip was phenomenal and left a huge impression on me. I knew that I had to find a way to share what I had learned with my students. This Japan Day was born!
On Japan Day, students learned about Japanese culture and schools through my trip photos and books. We created origami and kimono paper dolls as well as learned how to drink tea. The kids even brought indoor shoes and a rag to school. We changed in and out of their shoes so they feel what it would be like to experience this. At the end of the day, we cleaned the classroom. The kids were engaged throughout the lessons. The best part was that several parents contacted me to tell me what an impact it made on their kids. You know you have created a meaningful lesson when the kids go home and teach their parents how to speak Japanese and how students show respect in school.
I would not have thought to do this had it not been for my travels with BBT. This is my second trip with BBT. I would encourage anyone that loves teaching and traveling to take a look at all the amazing opportunities they offer!
